FROM GRIDS TO CUT-OUTS

The orthogonal grid has been the subject of my interest for a long time, but recently the use of irregular and spontaneously drawn grids has emerged as an artistic possibility, opening the way to new ideas to be explored. This spontaneous drawing of lines has led to the introduction of chance into this work.

These grids hold a dual potential for my artistic approach, which results in two distinct but interconnected series of works. On the one hand, they are a source for the compositions in the GRID MODULATIONS series. On the other, adjacent cells of these grids define the shape and size of the elements, the CUT-OUTS, which, when assembled, create the final artwork.

It is possible to achieve 3D effects by appropriate choice of colour, but in recent works I have avoided this effect by using colours with close values. I then connected the points of tension in the assemblage by drawing a new grid to strengthen the cohesion of the artwork.

FROM GRIDS TO CUT-OUTS

Irregular grids of freely drawn lines define the shape and size of the elements, which I call CUT-OUTS. When assembled together, adjacent cut-outs compose the final artwork.
